The idea behind Castaway Golf came from a youth’s passion for the sport. Matthew Vance (Founder and CEO) has always been active in sports. When he was young, he wanted to start golfing; however, like many families, they were finding it very expensive to keep up with all the sports he was involved in.
At a young age, Matthew was fascinated by the fact that golfers would hit balls into the woods and not bother to pick them up. He started collecting all these balls, and before too long, he was spending more time in the woods than he was golfing! He funded his own golf game from the proceeds of selling the balls to locals. Not only did this enable him to play, but he was also able to help his friends when they needed the funds.
The sport of golf has given Matthew so much. He grew up playing at the Truro Golf club in Truro, Nova Scotia. It was there that he learned so much about not only the sport, but how playing it can help you grow as an individual. More than ten years later, Matthew is proud to say he is part of a company driven by growing the game of golf and providing underprivileged youth the opportunity to play!
“Golf is much more than a sport to me! It has given me more than what I can explain in words. It makes me so proud to be part of a company that is helping to grow the game and providing youth with the opportunity to play the game.”
